U.G.L.Y

Well dear readers, if you haven’t noticed, its the new thing to be UGLY

hahaha! yes! thats right I said it

“agly”, “ug-uh-layy” or simply put in pigin “you dey ogg”

Before you think I’m a lunatic by putting out this word that carries such “negative connotation”, let me just elaborate.

Growing up, I was described with EVERY synonym you can find for ugly. Not only was I  a late bloomer, but I never really fitted into the idealistic “mixed race” girl category.

thinking about it, stupid things were said, it was either I wasnt “cream” enough, I had freckles, or my hair wasn’t curly enough.

One time my cousins told me (eventhough I love them to bits) that I would be lucky if I was as flat as a plank of wood. But rightnow, Im indented. ie. my boobs and ass are concave.

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! This came from people that supposedly loved me no matter what. Puuure f*ckery!

…and this was a 9 year old me, just PRAYING that one day I would look like a barbie. Aaaall hope was gone.

As a result of these pressures in my life , I permed my hair so that I too can slick it back and wear it straight without worrying about it frizzing up and looking like a hot mess in a matter of 20 mins after I leave the salon. Its pretty ironic now that I think of it, because I am growing it out back to its natural state.

I always said my hair was like a lion’s mane and called myself a lion, until I found out that its only the male lions that have the mane. So that comparision is scratched out.

but I’m sure you get the picture, Its gonna be natural and WILD, with every strand on my head at an almost 90 degree angle. YES. So so pretty and very ugly of me.

But after reading Dana’s blog post ( http://abapastiche.tumblr.com/post/2197433471/ugly-unique-girls-love-yourselves-study-what ) and Jessica’s facebook note ( http://www.facebook.com/notes/jessica-elizabeth-longdon/ugly-inspired-by-dana/177321035629600 ), I gathered a new definition for ugly.. or maybe it IS the definition that was just overlooked by the masses. Whatever the case, I dig it.

Unique Girls Love Yourselves

Yes I would say that I was a victim to the belief that I was a stereotypical UGLY person, overseeing my individuality that makes me unique and beautiful.

So yes my hair is thick and frizzy, I have freckles, my skin looks borderline albino, and I have thick thighs and yams for calves. As Ghanaian as I am, I will say “And so what? I like it like THAT!”

Personally, I give meaning to the overused phrase “beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder” differently. Contrary to popular belief the beholder is metaphorically every person, and the eyes are a representation of one’s individuality, since no set of eyes are identical. Simply speaking, everyone is different, and everyone is beautiful.

Why hate youself? Love yourself.

Afterall, we are all UGLY

BAHAHAHA! Sorry I couldn’t help myself. But seriously, who has your eyes?

… yeah thats what I thought.

Anywhoooo, I better get back to studying for this STATISTICS FINAL tomorrow, cuz if not, that paper is gonna be ALL TYPES OF UGLY!

eek!

So I’m gonna love you and leave you.

Hasta pronto putas,

Princess Me
